Skunk Ape’s Backwoods Art

“Cypress knees shaped like old men arguing about catfish”

I was sittin’ on a cooler, sketchin’ clouds, when I swear I heard two voices bickerin’ like married catfish. I peeked over and there they were — two cypress knees, shaped like old fellas, yellin’ about fishin’ spots. So I painted what I saw… and that’s why I quit drinkin’ creek water.

“Buzzards playing poker on a rusty car hood”

“Buzzards on the Bluff”
Skunk Ape swears this was a true story — four buzzards caught gambling on the hood of a rusted Ford. He said one was cheatin’, one was smokin’, and one hadn’t blinked in six hands. The fourth? Cold as gator spit.
🎨 Painted in tribute after Skunk Ape swore off creek water for good.

“Skeeter Ray”

Skeeter Ray don’t do much — and that’s on purpose.
He strung that hammock between two cypress knees and hasn’t looked back since. Says it’s the only place where the bugs leave him alone — outta respect.

“Mornin’ Cranes and Flip-Flops”

I was fixin’ to eat leftover boiled peanuts when these long-legged fellas showed up expectin’ a snack.
One of ‘em pecked my big toe like I owed him money.
So I tossed ’em corn and painted the moment — figured if you feed ‘em once, they’ll show up like cousins on payday.
